Nantyglo Communities First
Joanne Bartlett
Youth Co-ordinator
“The Cheeky Dragons would like to take this opportunity to thank Coalfields for funding 84 places to Action Camp for young people from the Ebbw Fach Valley. The camps were held over a period of two weekends where young people aged between 11yrs and 18yrs, from all six Communities First wards in the valley, took part in the camping and ESDGC activities. The young people learnt about food miles, shopping on a budget, got to taste new foods and learned about sustainable development.
The project was supported by both the Local Authority Leisure services and Communities First staff who said they would definately want to join forces and support a further trip for young people to the camp next year. The project also helped to break down barriers between groups of young peole from different communities within the Borough, some of whom have never took part in anything like this before. One young person from Nantyglo asked 'where is Six Bells?'. Another stated that he had never been camping”

“They young people who came definitely loved it and it was an all round good experience even for the Youth workers. The beach exercise (building table & chairs with Sand) was brilliant & the tug of war in the mud. The Children were particularly pleased with the qualification they’d earned & were chuffed to receive a certificate. The kids also enjoyed being with kids from other areas. Thank you to RCT Homes & Action Camp for making it possible.”
